Download and Test First Beta of WordPress 4.4

The curiosity that was build among the WordPress lovers due to the release of WordPress 4.4 is finally over! On Oct 22, 2015 one of the blog post that was published by Scott Taylor who is the lead for the release of WordPress 4.4 has announced the Beta 1 release of 4.4 which is for the testing purpose. As the software is still in the development phase so it is recommended not to run it on the production site and it is for the testing purpose. It is scheduled to be released on December 8 and some of its features that are available in the testing phase are as below:

Twenty Sixteen:

There is a new theme that is introduced with the launch of WordPress 4.4 beta and it is designed by Takashi Irie. This theme is the modernized approach of an ever-populated layout and was designed on harmonious fluid grid with a mobile first approach.

Responsive images:

WordPress automatically delivers a more appropriate image to the users depending upon screen size, viewport size and screen resolution.


Apart from YouTube, Flickr, Twitter and others, WordPress will now be able to embed all the sites that supports the oEmbed Standard. Now it is also possible to embed the previews of the post from other WordPress sites simply by pasting the URL on its own line.

Despite these changes there are lot many other changes that will definitely excite the developers and those are:

REST API (phase 1):

WordPress 4.4 consists of underlying infrastructure of the WordPress REST API plugin. This will give advantage to the Plugin authors for adding custom endpoints.

Term Metadata:

Taxonomy term metadata is included in WordPress 4.4. This will be very useful to the developers who are using this plugin to implement the term metadata. They should definitely read this post on how to prepare for the switch. Also WP_Term class improves caching when working with terms. (#14162)

Improved <title> output:

wp_title() has been deprecated. WordPress will now be able to handle rendering of the document title automatically.


Comment queries are now split for the performance. The underlying WP_Comment class improves caching and introduces strong-typing. (#8071, #32619)

The main reason to launch this Beta Version of WordPress 4.4 to get all the WordPress lovers involved. If in case there is any bug that is found then one can easily post to Alpha/ Beta area in the support forums. This will definitely help to find the bugs easily before the release which is scheduled to be released on December 8th.
